About Beachview Retreat

A message from your hosts, Eric and Julie Startup:

hosts eric and julieIt didn’t take us long to realize that we had found the perfect encore career when we began operating a 3 room B&B in our home in 2004. In 2009 Eric saw the light and left his banking career in order to spend more time with Julie in the kitchen and in the garden, enjoying vicarious travel through the stories told by Beachview Retreat’s globe-trotting guests.

In truth, not all of our travel adventures are second hand. Over the last several years places like Istanbul, Rhodes, Casablanca, Luang Prabang, Hanoi, Bangkok, London, Athens, Christchurch, Porto, Santiago de Compostela and St John’s have come alive for us, more complex and even more alluring now that we have seen them ourselves. Eric has maintained a travel blog for several of these trips and we invite you to browse these journals to share a bit of our adventures.

Meanwhile here at home on Vancouver’s famed North Shore we enjoy golfing, hiking, biking, kayaking and skiing. We encourage all our guests to take full advantage of the range of recreation and attractions available right from our front doorstep. North Vancouver residents since 1991, we are committed to ensuring that you have a memorable experience and leave Beachview Retreat feeling relaxed and restored.

Beachview Retreat is an adult oriented, smoke-free environment. Pet accommodation may be obtained nearby.

Visa, Mastercard and cash accepted.

The History of the House

beachview house history
Beachview Retreat is a renovated heritage home built in 1907 – originally the home of a manager with the Dollarton Sawmill, part of the Canadian logging company which Captain Robert Dollar established in 1916. Beachview Retreat is located on the North Shore of the Burrard Inlet in the Dollarton area next to the village of Deep Cove and at the entrance to Indian Arm, a narrow waterway extending 17 km to the tip of the Inlet.

Today, Deep Cove is a picturesque village-like oasis, just 20 minutes from the bustle of downtown Vancouver. The Cove’s tranquil beauty and the recreational opportunities at its doorstep makes it an irresistible place to visit. If you’re interested, you can read more about the history of the Deep Cove area.
